The population of Indonesia has been progressively getting older over the years, yet is still a relatively young nation for such a developed one. In the 1980's, Indonesia was still a fast growing nation with the majority of their population residing in the "pre-reproductive" range. This has changed in recent years, and now the majority of the population resides in the "reproductive" range which is suggesting that Indonesia is becoming a more industrialized and urbanized nation. As male and female ratios have never had huge gaps between them, it can be assumed that no major war or mass immigration has taken place in the last 38 years. The fluctuation of population numbers in the various age ranges has been slowing in recent years and this is a hint to the future of Indonesia's population pyramid. It will eventually reach a tipping point toward population decline, but because of the slow pace this country has been experiencing demographic shifts, it probably will not happen for another 100 years or more.
